Blog: New Media
One form of new media that does not exist but would be interesting to see would be a virtual reality system connected to social media. Virtual reality systems such as the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive systems already exist but in their own separate realm. It would be unique to see how mixing social media platform abilities with virtual reality would be, it seems like a special experience! Being that users can post videos, pictures, music, and their own personal content on the internet, mixing this with virtual reality would give users a more connected and empirical experience.

I would love to see something like this. I feel that the extra dimension and interactivity in a vr realm would be able to soften the lack of face to face time we have with current new media. It also returns an important part of communication back: body language and tone. With vr social media, the addition of a mic and sensors that pick up on body language can make communicating closer to how we naturally communicate. A social media vr would also give more shy users a chance to start fresh via an avatar instead of their low self-esteem actual self. Good idea!
